North Charleston South Carolina
North Charleston is located up river from Charleston and has a population of about 80,000 people. Originally home to large plantations, it became one of the first planned industrial/residential communities in the nation, and today still maintains most of the structure set forth in 1912.
Architecturally one will see some wonderful old houses and buildings in the center of the city, and when you start to look for your North Charleston apartment know you'll have many choices. Consider your parking options as there is bus service but the area as a whole will require owning a car.
Cooler on the River
With many top notch museums and culture venues located in Charleston and just minutes away, you'll still find things in North Charleston too. Treasure Lake is located in the middle of the city and even has a good beach. There are plenty of running and biking trails, and, of course, the Ashley River provides all sorts of water sport opportunities.
The North Charleston Coliseum is one of the largest venues in the state, and you'll be able to hear and see concerts, events and watch the local hockey team there. The city maintains excellent parks and even a great arts program.
Streetcar Dining
Once in your North Charleston apartment, you'll want to find some local places to eat.Sesame Burgers is a place that gets loads of great reviews by your neighbors. All fresh ingredients and a nice atmosphere. Santi's is considered the best Mexican cuisine (and margaritas) in town while Gennaro's takes the honors for Italian food.
Check out The Barbeque Joint for stacked high plates and a huge choice of sauces. You'll be sitting on picnic tables but there's nothing bad about that! For diners, there's a Denny's which is in a streetcar and everyone swears the food is better at this one than any of their others.
The Friendliest Bartenders
At night, check out The Mill. It's considered a pub but it has everything including live music. The drinks are good, the people are friendly, and it might be a good place to meet some new people too. Madra Rua Irish Pub is also popular for its Irish and English beers and friendly bartenders. Whether at lunch or into the night, it is an excellent choice. Of course, your North Charleston apartment will be close to a nice little neighborhood place or there are always choices down in Charleston if you feel like really getting out!
