North Charleston is located up river from Charleston and has a population of about 80,000 people. Originally home to large plantations, it became one of the first planned industrial/residential communities in the nation, and today still maintains most of the structure set forth in 1912.
North Charleston is serviced by the CARTA (Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority) and they offer fixed route, flex service, and express service to the residents of North Charleston. North Charleston it's self is not very walkable, but nearby Charleston is very walkable, and only a short ride away! Still, for the North Charlestonian a car will be required.
