Life at the Lake
With such close proximity to Lake Winnebago, it is no surprise that boating and fishing are popular (and accessible) activities in the area. Doty Park and Shattuck Park are the sites of Neenah's two boat launches and the gateway to 137,000 acres of fishing paradise. Walleye, bass, and perch patrol the water, and the relatively shallow depth is also ideal for swimming. If you are itching for some aqua activity during winter, do not lose hope; Neenah is a prime entry point for ice fishing across the lake. You can even park your car directly on the ice for easy access.
Neenah delivers when it comes to the pursuit of improved health. The city is home to more than 1,000 doctors, several hundred dentists, and three top-notch hospitals. The Theda Clark Medical Center is ranked among the top 100 hospitals in the United States, in part because of its highly rated level-2 trauma center, the only one in the area. City residents have also voted Theda Clark a Consumer Choice Award winner for several years running. In addition to the trauma center, the hospital has several specialty departments, including a bariatric surgery center, stroke center, and injury rehabilitation teams.
Taking it to the Stre
Neenah's cold winters can linger on, but when the summertime sun starts to shine, residents pour outdoors to enjoy community events. One of the more interesting annual festivals is the Neenah StreetBall Tournament, a two-day basketball event. Mid-June each year, several streets downtown are closed off and turned into courts, complete with hoops. Teams of three players each compete for the championship title in bracket games. When you attend the tournament, you are not relegated to sitting on the sidelines either. There are free-throw and slam-dunk contests for different age groups to encourage fan participation. Plenty of free parking is available on side streets.
