The Best of American

There are a lot of delicious restaurants with varying types of cuisine in Mount Airy, especially for a town of its size. Where the local eateries really shine is in upscale American cuisine, some of it traditional and some with a twist. The Brick Ridge Restaurant is located in a converted one room school house from the 19th century, so it takes the idea of American food quite literally. Every week, the restaurant features traditional menu items from a different state, cycling through the whole country every year or so. The Mount Airy Inn is located right downtown and specializes in upscale versions of American comfort foods and brick oven pizzas, two dishes that are also worth a try.

Piney Run Park

Piney Run Park is a favorite place for the people of Mount Airy to go enjoy the outdoors of Maryland. The center piece of the park is the 300 acre lake, an area which is great for fishing, swimming, or just pondering. Boat rentals are available on the shore and the park sponsors several fishing tournaments every year. The forested areas around the lake are interlaced with several hiking trails, which pull double duty and become great cross country skiing trails in the winter time. There are also several developed attractions at the park, such as a playground, tennis courts, and the Piney Run Nature Center.
