Feast at the Festival
One of the highlights of life in Milford, and there are many, is its annual Oyster Festival. Held every August on a Saturday, this fun-filled occasion takes advantage of Long Island Sound’s abundance of shellfish. It spreads out in several areas of the city and has canoe races, crafts, classic car shows, live entertainment, carnival rides, and, of course, plenty of freshly roasted oysters. Meet new people and make some friends at the festival, and make sure you take your appetite with you for all the delicious festival fare. People gather from far and wide for this very special event.
Life's a Beach
Walnut Beach offers plenty of parking, so grab your towel and suntan lotion, and head out to sit on near the dark blue waves. Relax and listen to the ocean crashing on the shore while you sit on the pristine beach. Take advantage of the wide open areas to fly a kite, or walk the boardwalk to neighboring Silver Sands State Park. If you want some water action, shift gears and go to Scott & Paddle, and rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard before you head to the beach. Bird lovers will not want to miss the Coastal Center at Milford Point.
Unique Scenic Shoppin
If it is shopping you want, shopping is what you will get in Milford. Collected Stories is a book lover’s paradise. Books old and new are readily available, and it is not uncommon to find a rare literary treasure tucked in with more modern works. For those people who prefer paper books to electronic ones, this store is the best place to search for your reading material. Do you fancy yourself as the next Jewel or Joni Mitchell?
