The community of Methuen is very dedicated to preserving the area's heritage and historical sites. One of the ways they do this is through the money raised by the Annual Festival of Trees. Occurring during the holiday season, the main attraction of the event is the display of dozens of fully decorated Christmas trees. A few lucky raffle winners will even get to take one of these decked out trees home with them. Aside from the trees, there is also an auction of Christmas gifts and items and, as well as a multitude of other events and displays meant to bring the spirit of the season alive.
The Methuen Rail Trai
One of the best ways to enjoy the scenic surroundings in Methuen is by foot or bike along the Methuen Rail Trail. The trail snakes through the town and into the outskirts showcasing not only the beauty of the town's buildings and downtown area, but also the natural beauty of northeastern lakes and forests. One highlight of the route is where the trail meets the Nevins Bird Sanctuary and natural preserve. It is not uncommon to encounter some of the sanctuary's resident wood ducks, blue herons, and red tail hawks, to name a few.
Shopping at The Loop
Shopping at The Loop means that residents of Methuen do not need to travel into Boston to find big brand name stores and restaurants. Located along Highway 213 in Methuen, this mall is a large outdoor facility that features big anchor department and clothing stores, as well as many specialty and lifestyle shops. You will also find a 20-screen movie theater at the mall that is always a big draw for area residents. After a day of shopping, a tequila cocktail from Santana Rae's, whose only location is in The Loop, might be in order.
