Town History

Metairie is one of the largest unincorporated communities in the United States and the most populated area of Jefferson Parish. Once a rural area of farms, dairies and undeveloped land, Jefferson Parish is New Orleans' first suburb. Located just minutes from downtown New Orleans, it has seen tremendous growth in popularity since the 1950s, with Metairie on the forefront of its boom.
