Eagle Island State Park lies immediately north of Meridian on the shores of the Boise River. The park strikes a nice balance between the pristine beauty of Northwestern forestland and recreational activities that will keep the family occupied for hours, or days if camping is in order. During the warmer months, the swimming beach is very popular, and even features a water slide. There are places to take gas powered ATVs or grass powered horses, and enough space for both to co-exist. There are also many options for staying the night including camping and yurts, as well as cabins to rent.
Movie Night in the Pa
The highlight of summertime for many families in Meridian is the annual Movie Night in the Park film series. Every Friday in June, July, and August the city brings a giant inflatable movie screen to Settler's Park and projects a family-friendly movie onto it. The crowd, which is always large, relaxes on blankets and lawn chairs enjoying the film and the warm summer air. The city also offers an offshoot, Teen Movie Night, aimed at providing local teens with a safe social outlet. Admission to Movie Night in the Park is free and the films always begin at dusk.
The Meridian Urban Ma
The Meridian Urban Market is Meridian's take on the traditional idea of a farmer's market. The local produce is here to be sure, but the more rustic feel of other farmer's markets is replaced by a quirky and artsy feel as artists and performers vie for booth space with the vegetable and flower vendors. Meridian's family-friendly ethos is extended to the Urban Market where there are plenty of games and treats to keep the children occupied while mom and dad browse art, jewelry, leather goods, or whatever else they might find.
