  • I've got dogs. What are the best places in Menlo Park for being outdoors with pets?

The best places in Menlo Park for being outdoors with pets are one of the area's off-leash dog parks. The first is Nealon Park, but it's only open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 10 am. The second is Willow Oaks Oark, which operates longer hours; it's open seven days a week from 7 am to 9 am, then again from 4 pm to dusk. In addition, to the east heading towards the coast are multiple wilderness parks where you can take your pooch for a hike.

  • Is Menlo Park a town where I'll need a car to get around?

Most likely. Although Caltrain, the Bay Area commuter rail, links Menlo Park to other towns with its Menlo Park Station, it doesn't provide intercity transportation. Bus service is provided by SamTrans, but routes are limited and might not be able to take you everywhere you need to go. Consult the SamTrans website for further information regarding maps and timetables.

  • Do most people in Menlo Park rely on public transportation?

Not most, but many Menlo Park residents do. In fact, the number of people who take public transportation in Menlo Park is 63 percent greater than the California average and 118 percent greater than the national average. The Menlo Park Station serves as a hub for Caltrain, which connects Menlo Park with San Francisco to the north, Gilroy to the south, and many cities in betwen, and VTA Route 22, which goes as far as San Jose. SamTrans provides local bus service to the area.

  • What does everyone in Menlo Park do for fun in their spare time and on weekends?

Located near the ocean and the redwoods, much of what is fun to do on weekends in Menlo Park revolves around the outdoors. There are countless opportunities for hiking and camping to the east, between the city and the sea, and the Pacific Ocean to the west offers surfing, swimming, fishing, sailing, and boating. Some Menlo Park residents also enjoy venturing north to San Francisco, which is about 45 minutes away from Menlo Park, or south to Santa Cruz, which is about an hour away. With many backpacking options and beautiful beaches, Big Sur is another popular weekend destination for Menlo Park's inhabitants.
