Melbourne, which is located in the southern region of central Florida, is the second largest city in Brevard County. Melbourne has a population of about 76,000 people, and is part of a metropolitan area that also includes the neighboring cities of Palm Bay and Titusville. Well known for its close proximity to both Orlando and the Space Coast, Melbourne is not to be confused with Melbourne Beach, a city that's located along the Florida coastline.
Melbourne has multiple options for transportation, including road, air, rail, and bus. The roads coming in and out of the city include US Routes 1 and 192, Interstate 95, and State Routes 507, 404, 508, and 518. The Union Cypress Company Railroad and the Florida East Coast Railway both run through the city, though they are primarily used for freight. The Space Coast Area Transit and Greyhound Bus Lines carry most of the city’s bus traffic. Melbourne is unique in that it subsidizes a few routes inside the city, allowing residents to ride free of charge.
