With live music, comedy, and dance performance, one of the South's largest Labor Day Parades, 5-kilometer runs, car shows, carnival rides, and tons of arts, crafts, and other vendor booths to explore, Matthews Alive keeps the town hopping throughout the weekend and the Labor Day holiday every year. This four-day celebration is one of Matthews' largest festivals and funds many local community service and nonprofit organizations as well. With main events held in Downtown's Stumpton Park and satellite events staged throughout town, Matthews Alive really does see the community out in droves to celebrate life in small-town North Carolina.
Matthews is not only served by three impeccable Harris Teeter groceries, it is also the home of this regional supermarket chain's base of corporate operations. Local stores stock plentiful and high-quality produce and all the staple items needed for stocking a pantry. An exceptional deli, clean and well-lit stores, and friendly and impeccable customer service are the hallmarks of Harris Teeter’s and the Matthews stores certainly fit the bill. There are also several other groceries in Matthews, including an Aldi and a Food Lion as well as a couple of international grocers, but most residents flock to Harris Teeter.
