Marina del Rey, California
Marina del Rey is a tiny land mass of only 1.5 square miles. It's a small stretch of beach, a fantastic marina and beach housing, and has a population of about 8200 lucky people. It neighbors Venice and Playa del Rey, has both high rise and low rise apartments and is very walkable. While almost everything is available within walking distance, it is Southern California afterall and most people own a car.
A Fisherman's Village
The marina houses thousands of boats and is attractive not only for the boat owner but for just watching it. Many of the high rises overlook it and it is a treat of a view. The Christmas parade of brightly lit boats is a great annual event. The proximity of boating, fishing and other water sports is enough for most but the coastal biking and running path is also a great draw. Fisherman's Village is lovely for shopping and dining, and you will also like being so close to Venice and Santa Monica. You can walk or bike to some of the best things Southern California has to offer.
Trust Me Sushi
The C & O Trattoria is right next to the beach and gets great reviews from all the locals for not only fantastic service but great food. Hang out with drinks and watch the water, or chow down on wonderful pastas and pizzas. sugarFISH is a favorite sushi place where you'll want to try the Trust Me Special. You'll just have to go and see what that's all about! The Lido Grill is Basque food, and it has great ambiance whether on a date or alone, it's terrific. If you just want something sweet, run don't walk to Tia's Bakery. The chocolate bean brownie is to die for.
Beach Bars
Once settled into your Marina del Rey apartment, you'll want to explore the nightlife. There's always cool stuff in Venice and Santa Monica but for close to home places, there are several good places. Some of them are in the big hotels near the marina, and the best one is the Veranda Bar at Casa del Mar. Everything about it is stellar! Brennan's and Glow are both smaller, more local type places which attract mixed crowds and are worth a try.
Your apartment in Marina del Rey will offer a fantastic, beach lifestyle. Enjoy!

Marina Del Ray is very pedestrian-friendly. There is no need for a car to get around this small town; residents can get nearly anywhere they need to by foot or by bike. The major businesses are located along Main Street, along with a slew of grocery stores, restaurants, shops, and parks. Bike paths run up and down the coast for easy transit to Venice Beach and other nearby destinations. The only possible downfall is that there are not many jobs or large companies located within Marina Del Ray, so residents may need a car to get to work outside of town.
