Maplewood is located just 15 miles from Minneapolis and 9 miles from St. Paul. It is known for its excellent school district, sense of community and open space, which includes 33 parks with a wide variety of recreational opportunities. Maplewood is home to the area’s largest mall, the award winning St. John’s Hospital and the main campus of 3M Corporation, which employs over 10,000 people. It is a city that serves as a quiet escape from the Twin Cities, yet offers convenient access to all that the metropolitan area has to offer.
Maplewood is accessible by two of Minnesota’s major highways (Route 94 and Route 694), so driving is a great way to get around the city. However, because of Maplewood’s proximity to Minneapolis and St. Paul, it shares the twin cities’ public transit system. Metro Transit is the operator, offering an integrated network of buses, light rail and commuter trains. It extends beyond Minneapolis and St. Paul and into Maplewood, with the Maplewood Mall Transit Center acting as the main hub for buses in and out of the area.
