Welcome to Laurel

The population of Laurel, Mississippi, has grown considerably over the past decade. Though it may be a little bigger now (with a population of over 20,000), it's still the same small town. From its lovely historic downtown area to its downtown celebrations, this vibrant community has loads to offer.

Laurel Rental Rates

Prices on apartments in Laurel are extremely reasonable. Newcomers to the area will be able to enjoy saving a great deal on rent while getting to take advantage of everything the town has to offer. People in Laurel like to have fun and renters get to enjoy the free entertainment that goes on all year round, driving up the value of their apartments without increasing the rental rates. You’ll typically find units ranging from one bedroom up to three in and around Laurel. Ready for the numbers? Check out the table above to see what places are currently going for.

Laurel's Roots Run Deep

The first American settlers in Laurel arrived a couple of hundred years ago. The area around the town was cleared for lumber early on and most of Laurel's early residents were involved in this industry. An influx of new residents to the area around the turn of the 20th century led to significant development. Many of these buildings, now about a hundred years old, are still standing in the historic downtown area. Laurel is known for its iconic southern homes, many of which were built in the craftsman style, with awesome large front porches. Renters who want to see what the town may have looked like two hundred years ago can pay a visit to Landrum's Homestead and Village, a recreation of an 1800s village set against the backdrop of a grove of pecan trees. This village has fifty buildings and a number of displays that bring history to life. Though renters won't be able to find apartments for rent in the historic village, many of the buildings in Laurel feature views of some of the town's historic areas and beautiful, forested landscape.

Celebrate Good Times, Come On!

There's always something new going on in Laurel and apartment renters will be able to party down with their neighbors at a variety of festivals held throughout the year. Laurel has something different going on each month, including a Martin Luther King Jr. parade and blues and bluegrass festivals throughout the year. These celebrations are offered free of charge to the residents of Laurel and provide a great forum for meeting the neighbors, getting to know the town, and having some rip roaring good times.

Inspiration Strikes

Housed in a one of Laurel's historic homes, the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art displays art from around the corner and around world. The museum has a permanent collection of art from the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Visitors to the museum can enjoy exploring other cultures through the art these cultures produce. The museum is also located across the street from the Wisteria House, one of the most well known buildings in town. It can be hard to find the Wisteria House, since its bright lavender paint camouflages it. It literally seems to disappear into the wisterias that climb up its trellises. But consider this: if you see a wisteria bush the size of a house, it's a fair guess that you are looking at the Wisteria House.

Out and About

Apartment renters who move to Laurel will find plenty to do in town. There are restaurants and shops to explore and fun neighbors to hang out with at the park or a party at the apartment complex. (Perhaps yours?) Renters who are looking for a little more nightlife or excitement can head down to Hattiesburg. This city is home to loads of restaurants, music venues, and theaters so residents are sure to be happily entertained year round.
