The Independence Grov

Open all year from dawn till dusk, the Independence is one of the area's most popular places to enjoy outdoor recreation. Located around a 116-acre lake, there are all sorts of things to do, on and off the water. You will find a canoe launch, where fishermen and sightseers go out for a paddle on the lake or the Des Plaines River. For those who do not have their own boat, there are canoes and paddle boats available to rent. Also, do not miss the visitor's center that features displays on the natural history of the area, as well as educational programs offered by local experts.

The Goose is Loose Fe

Residents look forward to the annual Goose is Loose Festival every summer in Libertyville. Children will be delighted by the inflatable giant slides and bouncy castles, not to mention the various carnival-style games and entertainment. Parents will be even more delighted by the festival's main attraction: the beer and wine tasting. Entry tickets include a certain number of samples from the many local and regional specialty breweries and wineries. Attendees should be sure to hold onto their ticket stubs because there is a raffle at the end of the festival for large cash prizes.
