The Johnny Appleseed

Each fall, members of the Leominster community gather to celebrate the fall season and their favorite native son: Johnny Appleseed. The Johnny Appleseed Arts and Cultural Festival was established in 1993 and has been growing every year with events and attractions of all types. It is hard to say what the main attraction of the event is each year, because there are so many exciting choices to choose from. There are the numerous vendors selling homemade crafts, clothing, and foodstuffs, along with plenty of apple treats. There is also a carnival area with rides and games to keep everyone occupied. The whole event closes out with a big outdoor concert, which is always a must-see.

Leominster State Fore

To escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, the outdoors area around the city is made up of numerous lakes, rolling hills, and thick forests, so residents of Leominster do not need to go far to enjoy the spoils of their natural surroundings. The Leominster State Forest stretches for over 4,000 acres and is the perfect venue for all sorts of outdoor activities, ranging from trail running to rollerblading, all year long. There are miles of hiking trails that will leave the walker or biker feeling as if they are many miles from civilization and the two lakes in the park provide activities such as swimming and fishing. In the winter, the park is also open for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

Eating Out in Leomins

The best restaurants in Leominster draw from the region's heritage of European immigrants, but the contemporary twist many of these restaurants add is what really makes them shine. A good example of this is Il Camino, a venue which has been the local favorite Italian restaurant for decades. This charming bistro specializes in homemade pasta, specialty cocktails, and the homemade orange soda which is bottled in house. The chicken piccata is a local favorite and also worth a tantalizing try. Another outstanding restaurant is Rye and Thyme, an eatery that focuses on whiskey and raw seafood with the added benefit of outstanding pizza.
