Swope Park

It is not hard for the people of Leawood to enjoy the out-of-doors thanks to places like Swope Park, where locals enjoy more than 1,800 acres of lush parkland. Swope Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country, and due to its size, has numerous activities that will appeal to every appetite. For those people who want to learn more about nature the Lakeside Nature Center is within park grounds, as is the Kansas City Zoo. A walk through the Kansas City Community Gardens is another option with much more available elsewhere in the park.

Leawood Arts Council

Leawood's commitment to the arts is evident in the Leawood Arts Council, an all-volunteer group dedicated to promoting the arts for the sake of the people of the city. Making sure that cultural events and arts education are available to all, the council arranges art shows, musical performances, and a number of educational programs for everyone in the community. The council offers all its programs free of charge to be sure that no one is denied access to the arts due to lack of funds. The council also helps decide on which public art to install in the city.
