With All the Beauty of its Namesake Flower

Apartment renters who would like to live in a small, longstanding community within easy distance of warm ocean waters and away from the crowds of tourists that commonly throng beautiful towns with perfect weather should seriously consider moving down to Lantana, Florida. Lantana doesn't have any shoreline itself, though it does have access to the marshy bay just inland of the thin strip of land home to Florida's eastern beaches. Community members in Lantana will have to head into neighboring towns (which are about three minutes away) if they'd like to spend a day at the beach. There are only about 10,000 people in town, so newcomers to the area won't have to worry about getting lost in the shuffle, especially since the town has been further broken down into neighborhoods with about a thousand residents each. Of course, it's not hard to visit the touristy destinations in Florida when your home base in Lantana, and renters in town will be able to head up to the theme parks of Orlando or down to the crowded streets of Miami without any trouble (though with everything right there in Lantana, there's little reason to).

Away from the Ocean At Last

There's only so much sand, surf and sun a person can take. Residents of Lantana, with it's proximity to long, stunning, white sand beaches, can easily grow tired of spending all their days lounging at the shoreline, sun on their skin and salt in their hair. Good for them, then, that Lantana is also just a quick drive from the interior of the state, where the beaches can be quickly forgotten. Florida's largest lake, Lake Okeechobee, is just an hour away from Lantana. Visitors may think they've driven all the way to the gulf side of the state when they arrive at the shore of Lake Okeechobee since it's not possible to see all the way across the lake from one of its shores. But taste the water (please don't actually taste the water) and you'll be able to tell that it is, indeed, an enormous body of fresh water. The lake offers excellent bass fishing, canoeing and birding, but not the best swimming, since the water is only an average of nine feet deep and there are alligators around. The lake is a part of the world-famous ecosystem, the everglades, and many of the animals that make their homes in the national park by the same name (which is also a day trip from Lantana) can be found in and around the lake and its marshlands.

A Little Manmade Fun and Excitement

Apartment renters in Lantana who are willing to drive a little ways will be able to take advantage of some of Florida's manmade fun. Orlando, home of many Florida theme parks, is only 3 hours away from Lantana. Of course, the most famous of these, Walt Disney World, demands that visitors stay for more than a few days if they even want a chance of seeing and experiencing a tenth of what the park has to offer, but residents of Lantana can easily pop up to Orlando for a weekend getaway (with or without kids in tow--though if you do have kids, leaving them at home while you hightail it off to Disney World is NOT recommended). If the weather is sticky and hot, visitors to the area can cool off in one of a half-dozen different water parks. When it's nice out, strolling through acres and acres of shopping areas makes a great break from hours of rides and shows in the parks.

(Former) Home of the World's Largest Christmas Tree

Founded nearly a hundred years ago now, Lantana has been a thriving community since it first appeared near Florida's eastern shore. Recently, the town was broken down into a number of small neighborhoods designed to foster community involvement and friendship between neighbors. The people of each neighborhood, and the town as a whole get together frequently at community events hosted by the town's parks and recreation department and the local library. For many years, Lantana also put up the world's largest Christmas tree, ordering a huge pine from the Pacific and transporting it the 3,000 miles into town. Though it doesn't put on quite as much a show any more, the people of Lantana still get together for holiday celebrations and to decorate their palm trees with lights.
