Lancaster has a population of 55,000 people and is not only the county seat but the center of the county. For one day in 1777, it was the capital of the United States. It had prominence during the Revolutionary War, and later became an important iron foundry town. Perhaps, one of the most famous things invented and made in Lancaster is the Conestoga wagon, which helped pioneers make their trek to the West and is named after the river flowing through the city.
Hwy. CA-14 runs through the heart of the city, making access to Santa Clarita easy with only a 50 minute drive. And although it's to long to easily commute to, Los Angeles is only and hour and 10 minutes away. The nearest airport is run by Los Angeles World Air, and is located in nearby Palmdale. The AVTA provides a commuter bus into Downtown Los Angeles.
