There's even a ""Make Lakewood Beautiful"" program, which is a strategy for preserving the city's original architecture. Lakewood is home to one museum and one foundation that arranges exhibitions. The Lakewood Historical Society oversees the Oldest Stone House Museum, a structure that has been preserved as a typical pioneer home. The Cleveland Artists Foundation displays exhibitions relating to visual art and architecture of the Northeast Ohio region. Better-known museums are located in nearby Cleveland, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, a major American art museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland.

What do people in Lakewood do as far as outdoor recreation?
Located right on Lake Erie, many outdoor activities in Lakewood revolve around the water, including swimming, boating, and fishing. For land-oriented athletic pursuits, Rocky River Reservation to the southwest offers many hiking trails winding through the valley's floodplain forests, meadows, and wildflowers. The reservation also includes three golf courses: Big Met, Little Met, and Mastick Woods. Cleveland Lakefront State Park to the east features bicycle paths, a fitness course, and a beach. To the southeast of Lakewood lies Cuyahoga Valley National Park, which offers hiking, camping, and cross-country skiing in winter.
