Jacksonville, Florida

Located in Northeast Florida and on the Atlantic coast, Jacksonville has the distinction of being one of the largest cities in terms of land mass in the U.S. It has a very old history with the first Indian settlers arriving 6000 years ago, and it was first explored by the Spanish in the mid 1500s.

The city thrived until 1901 when a fired ravaged most of the central district.  In rebuilding, Jacksonville became a center for business, movie making and military installations.

Coastal or Interior

Today, it is a sprawling yet livable city.  It is car oriented with a less than adequate mass transit system yet in place. When looking for your Jacksonville apartment, you'll want to consider proximity to your work or interests.

You might want to check out the historic Riverside neighborhood as well as Avondale. Both have a high concentration of upscale amenities. If you prefer the ocean, you'll want to check out the many beach communities too. As the city spreads, the architecture is newer but many small towns with Main Streets have been incorporated into Jacksonville proper.

Things To Do

Jacksonville has a fine assortment of both contemporary and more traditional museums for the culture lover.  Sports are covered by the NFL Jaguars as well as several popular college teams and minor league teams. The city has the largest urban park system in the U.S. so outdoor activities are well covered.  The St. John's River and the Atlantic beaches offer something for everyone. Theatre thrives in forms of both mainstream and community venues. It will be exciting to settle into your Jacksonville apartment and start exploring all these local attractions.

Laid Back Dining

The Landing district downtown is a prime source for dining and nightlife. There you will find both upscale and affordable places in a hustle bustle atmosphere. The city has a good selection of Cuban food like Havana-Jax Cafe, and out along Beach Boulevard, you can find numerous fish places and great bars. Irish bars are in large number and many of them not only offer a large array of imported live music and outdoor seating areas. By all means, check out Pete's Bar which is classic beach fare.
