Humble, Texas

Funny name for a town, you must be thinking. Humble is named after a man called Pleasant Smith Humble who was better known as Plez. He moved into the area just before the Civil War and operated a ferry across the San Jacinto River. In order to get mail, he set up a post office and named it after himself and that's the town got named.

Early on, the town was a center for timber shipping but after a gusher of an oil well in 1904, Humble became a tent city for oil workers. Continued petroleum discoveries eventually made the Humble oil fields the largest producing ones in Texas.

After production began to decline, locals went back to farming and lumber cutting until the enormous Houston International Airport opened in 1969. Today, Humble is a bustling town of around 15,000 very diverse citizens. It is now considered a social and economic hub for the whole county.

Fine Outdoor Living

In looking for your Humble apartment and getting to know the city, you'll discover there's plenty to do here in your leisure time. The Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center is 275 acres of recreational fun.

There's boating and fishing not to mention great trails for hiking. The Humble Gatti Amusement Center is a permanent carnival like place with bumper cars, a climbing wall and arcade games. Old MacDonald's Farm offers a great petting zoo for the kids. The town library is very comprehensive and you'll also find a few art galleries around too.

Fresh Seafood and Home Cooking

One of everyone's favorite restaurants is the Humble City Cafe. It's located downtown and serves up the freshest food with very friendly service. Expect and get some great seafood fresh from the Gulf at places like Pappas Seafood House.

There are plenty of nationally known chain places both upscale and fast food. Your Humble apartment is likley to be near many of them.

Grab Your Stetson
