Hugoton is located just east of Cimarron National Grassland. With over 108,000 acres, the grassland is the largest area of public land in the state of Kansas. Activities include camping, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, and hunting. Farther west of Cimarron National Grassland is Comanche National Grassland, and Rita Blanca National Grassland is located to the southwest of Hugoton. Both grasslands offer similar opportunities to enjoy the outdoors as Cimarron.
