Home Is Where Henderson Is (and vice versa)

Henderson can be found in Adams County, Colorado. This town was once known as Henderson Island because it’s sort of an island. Though the town has dropped “Island” from its name, there are still some fabulous views of the river. A suburb of Denver, Henderson is a fine community to set up shop. Just like Denver, Henderson is a "mile high" city. Well, almost. At 5,023 feet it falls just shy of that. Poor Henderson. Not quite an island, not quite a mile high.

Low Prices in Up-High Henderson

Though it’s a teeny, tiny town (there are only around 200 people who live here) Henderson can hold its own on the apartment rental front. A Little Henderson History

Henderson's history is rife with drama. You see, back in the mid-1800s, a fellow by the name of Jack Henderson built a hotel and a trading post on Henderson Island in Adams County. As an editor and proprietor of a Kansas publication and a Confederate politician once accused of voter fraud, Henderson was no stranger to scandal. But he came up to Colorado to turn his life around and he became a lifesaver to many of the gold prospectors seeking their fortune in the Rockies. Henderson provided them with meat, clothing, tools, and other provisions.

Unfortunately, Jack Henderson's story ends in tragedy. He was killed by members of the Osage Tribe after he made the unfortunate mistake of crossing into their territory with loaded weapons. Though the man is long gone, his legacy lives on in, of course, the town’s name.

Henderson: Living Here Is A Rocky Mountain High

Today, Henderson is an unincorporated community made up of a tiny handful of elderly folks, farmers, and elderly farmers. The construction of the Adams County Fairgrounds, has helped bring commerce and residents from other cities in the Denver metropolis. Renters who move to Henderson will also have easy access to the rodeo and other shows and festivals that are held at the fairgrounds. The Adams County Fairgrounds solicits the help of volunteers and refuses them pay “not because they're worthless, but because they're priceless.” That's a pretty smooth slogan coming from a small time outfit like that. Not bad, Adams County, not bad.

What to See in Henderson

If rodeos and county fairs aren’t your thing, Henderson has much more entertainment to offer. There’s an amusement park, the Adams County Historical Society & Museum, which is a one stop shop for all the ins and outs of the area's history, and even a beauty pageant sponsored by Chic-fil-A. We’re sure you could even rustle up a kindly old woman to answer any questions you may have about life in Henderson.

You can also visit Colorado's largest flea market and let loose change fly like the wind! The unforgettably named Mile High Flea Market is an awesome place to snag some new treasures. Plus, it has rides! Rides! But be warned: scarfing down the delectable food available at the market is not the best thing to do before going in to ride mode.

If you’re looking for an apartment in a small (and we mean small), fun-loving community, Henderson may be the perfect place to set down roots. What are you waiting for? Start looking for your great new place today!
