Hazelwood History

Hazelwood has been known as a great place to live since well before the first American settlers homesteaded into town. Back at the time of the last ice age, the Paleolithic population was hard at work hunting mammoth in Hazelwood. Since that time, the area has usually been inhabited by one tribe or another. In the 1700s, French settlers created a village on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River—long before the region would come to be known as Hazelwood. These early settlers were big on fishing, hunting, and, of course, protecting their national interests by creating outposts and securing trade agreements with the Native Americans. As St. Louis grew into a modern metropolis, Hazelwood grew into the "second ring" suburb that it is today.

The people of Florissant are always happy to welcome their neighbors from Hazelwood to the pool party—just make sure to wear proper swim attire.

If you’re not into parks and outdoor recreation, don’t despair. There’s plenty of indoor fun to be had in Hazelwood. For one thing, you’ll only be a hop, skip, and a jump away from the St. Louis Mills.
