The local public schools in Haltom City are considered superior to those in the surrounding areas. The Birdville Independent School District is quite unique in the interest it takes in the success of each of its students. The district will even cover the tuition costs of the first semester at any of the Tarrant County College campuses for any graduating senior. This being Texas, the community loves to root for the Haltom High Buffaloes, especially the football team. Two religious schools in the area, Bethesda Church School and Glenview Christian School, provide private school options.
Eating Out in Haltom
There is a distinct note of pride that can be heard in the voice of a Haltom local when they talk about the area's food. In fact, the area has been getting a reputation for drawing the lunch crowd from the offices in downtown Fort Worth. Not surprisingly, Haltom is home to delicious barbecue, so check out Lone Star BBQ for an affordable way fill up the entire family. Also, keep an eye out for a thriving burger culture and plenty of Tex-Mex. But the community's unique specialty is Vietnamese cuisine, which draws on an active immigrant community to produce some of the most authentic and tasty pho noodle soup around.
Fun in the Parks
Outdoor recreation can sometimes be tough in a large metropolitan area, but that does not stop the residents of Haltom. A local favorite is the 18-hole disc golf course centrally located in North Park. For the uninitiated, disc golf works like regular golf except the ball and clubs are replaced with a frisbee, and the hole is replaced with a free-standing basket. Disc golf is more inexpensive and casual to play than traditional golf making it popular with a younger crowd. Another attraction is the spraygrounds located in Broadway and Whites Branch parks, which are large fountains designed to drench children and adults alike looking to beat the summer heat.
