Great Ol’ Griffin!

The Griffin area was claimed as part of Florida by the Spaniards in the 1500s but was later established as belonging to English territories. Eventually the small city of Griffin, nicknamed the Iris City, was set up along the McIntosh Indian Trail and Oakfuskee Path, old Native American routes in the area, and played keys roles in the American Civil War. The city is located just under forty minutes south of Atlanta in Spalding County and stays connected to the rest of Georgia with its very own Griffin-Spalding County Airport and Highways 16 and 19. The city participates in Georgia’s Main Street Program which aims to revitalize historic downtown areas and promote local businesses. Residents have access to great shopping and outings at the Griffin Crossroads shopping center and the Historic Downtown Griffin district. Check out what’s going on in the area and stay up to date with the local Griffin Daily News.
