Fancy a Fancy Bayside Town?
Gig Harbor, Washington, may not be the fanciest town around but it’s still pretty snazzy. Just how snazzy is this place? See for Yourself. Gig Harbor is one of a handful of cities that claim to be the gateway to the Olympic Peninsula, but we think that it has the best claim on this title.
A long time ago, the people of Gig Harbor relied on manufacturing and commercial fishing to make their livings. Like many a city that was once beholden to creaking, cranking, crusty ways of turning a buck, much has changed. Today, the city relies more on tourism and small businesses than hard labor for its economic livelihood.
Make the move to Gig Harbor easy as pie by taking a look at our Apartment Guide. Check out LocalTalk to get advice, information, and answers to all your questions from reliable area experts by using the ""Ask a Question"" feature.

If you’re ready to find your dream apartment, make like a tree and leave your worries behind by taking a look at some of the available units. Want to learn more about life in Gig Harbor? Read on!
Getting in on the Gig?
Don't be misled by this picture; it doesn't snow very often in Gig Harbor. We think this picture may have been taken during the winter of 2008-2009, when the Pacific Northwest got pummeled by a snowstorm like the short kid gets pummeled by a torrent of snowballs. Gig Harbor does get cold (with highs in the 40s in the winter), but it’s rarely frighteningly frigid. Summers in this part of the country make up for all the white woe of winter. Beauty: the word doesn't capture summertime in Gig Harbor. Just take a look at this, this, and this. As you may have guessed, Gig Harbor is a resort town of sorts. Though the townspeople used to exploit the resources of the Pacific Northwest to make their living, nowadays, they make their living by letting nature be the beauty that she is. Fishing is no longer the mainstay that it once was, either. Most fishermen from Gig Harbor make the long haul up to Alaska, where there’s more money to be made.
Going for a Ride
In Gig Harbor, you don’t need to travel by car, train, bike, or foot. You can also travel around in a seafaring craft like this, if you get in touch with Gig Harbor Rent-A-Boat or another company that’s in the business of helping you take a long boat ride off of a short pier. Power boats, canoes, kayaks, and even stand-up paddle boards are yours for the borrowing.
There’s no law that says you have to love life on the high seas. Land lovers may prefer a city walking tour to a day on the sound. You don’t even need a tour guide, just get yourself a copy of this map! Any renter with a functional pair of legs and an itch to get moving can strike out on their own and get to know their new hometown.
Keeping Yourself Entertained
Speaking of striking out, you'll find ample opportunity to do just that in the city's numerous parks. It looks like Kenneth Leo Marvin Veterans Memorial Park is the go-to place for baseball and softball. Skaters will want to know that Grandview Street harbors (so to speak) a skate park that judging from this picture is a surefire winner.
Food. You need it, Gig Harbor's got it: a veritable horn of plenty of wine bars, seafood, and even Indian restaurants. We don't link to places with bad food, so you can be sure that all of these restaurants are guaranteed gastronomical game changers. Ok, now we're hungry.
Here's a factoid that you may find of some value in your next desperate attempt at small talk: Jennifer Lopez's movie, Enough, was filmed in Gig Harbor. What are you waiting for? Angelina Jolie? Get over to Gig Harbor while the getting’s good!
