Educating Through Art
The Germantown Performing Arts Center (GPAC) is music to the ears of residents who love the symphony. GPAC is considered to be the leading performing arts center in the mid-South. Not only are there amazing international performances in a wide range of genres, it is also home to the GPAC Youth Symphony Orchestra and frequently alternating art exhibits. Mix art with history by visiting the Germantown Regional History and Genealogy Center (GRHGC). This special collection center has hundreds of old books, photographs, maps, newspapers, and microfilms about the South. Dedicated to the preservation of southern culture and history, it contains generation’s worth of treasures.
A Farm Park and Fishi
You can have a unique day or exercise and outdoor fun with a visit to the Bobby Lanier Farm Park. This lively park is an actual working model of a suburban farm. Tour the gardens, buy some produce, pay a visit to the friendly farm animals, or be a park volunteer. If fishing with your father or grandfather brings back fond memories, Germantown has more than two dozen lakes and ponds where you can cast a line and try to catch the big one. The waters are home to bass, bream, and catfish and some ponds are stocked for special occasions.
Down Home Taste
Southern food means comforting favorites, regional recipes, and plenty of cold sweet iced tea. When you are craving some good old-fashioned soul food, have lunch or dinner at Soul Fish Café. The hushpuppies and blackened catfish are fantastic. If you are in a hurry and want a delicious sandwich, Vanelli’s Deli has just what you want to order. The smoked beef brisket will make your mouth water. For a pizza with a crispy light crust and plenty of hot, bubbly cheese, the Memphis Pizza Café is a local’s favorite. They offer traditional and exotic toppings and the sauce is perfectly spiced.
