Red Rock Balloon Rall
The month of December brings an event to Gallup that brings a breathtaking spectacle to the sky. The Red Rock Balloon Rally has been a holiday season fixture in the area since 1981. Hundreds of hot air balloons from around the world arrive in Gallup for the opportunity to sail the wide open skies over the mountainous terrain. The rally is the second largest hot air balloon gathering in the entire country. Spectators are encouraged to take a close look at the many balloons on display and are also asked to volunteer and help make the event run right.
Gallup Cultural Cente
Established by the Southwest Indian Foundation, the Gallup Cultural Center is a hotbed of local information meant to educate the people of Gallup on the area's rich history and Native American background. Artwork and historical artifacts that date back to the 19th century help accomplish this educational goal, making this center a favorite for history buffs throughout New Mexico. From exhibits featuring the famous Navajo Code Talkers from World War II to stories told by local narrators, the Gallup Cultural Center is sure to bring a fascinating and interactive experience to residents and visitors alike.
Fox Run Golf Course
Gallup residents do not have to go far to get in a round of golf. The Fox Run Golf Course, located on the southwest side of the city, offers an 18-hole course with a rating of 68.3. Members have complete access to a well-stocked pro shop, as well as an on-site practice green for those with less time on their hands. Visitors can purchase packages that come complete with registration assistance from staff, golf cart rentals, and range balls. The Fox Run Golf Course hosts tournaments throughout the year and is available for private celebrations.
