St. Francis Preparato
For more than a hundred years St. Francis Preparatory School has given Fresh Meadows and the rest of Queens access to a truly exceptional education. Founded in 1858, the school moved twice before ending up at its current location. True to the spirit of St. Francis, the school encourages academic excellence, community service, physical development, and respect for the environment. Teachers strive to provide not only quality instruction, but to inspire their students. School alumni include NFL players, city council members, news anchors, and such famed personalities as Vince Lombardi and Frank Serpico.
Fresh Meadows locals enjoy the scenic beauty of Kissena Park, located right next to Kissena Lake. The shady willow trees by the lake make a perfect spot to have a picnic or a catnap on the grass. Kissena Park is home to a wide variety of exotic trees, many of which were planted in the park's tree grove when a horticultural garden was established there early in the history of the park. In addition to the park's beautiful scenery bicyclists also enjoy "the track of dreams," also known as the Kissena Park Velodrome. This state-of-the-art track also provides free lessons for kids.
New York Pizza
New York style pizza is well-known for its thin crust and delicious flavor, as well as a bit of a mystery: What exactly is it that makes it taste so good? Many guess that there is something special in the water, although it is hard to say for sure. No matter what the mystery ingredient is, there is no shortage of it in Fresh Meadows. From Fresh Meadows, you can easily get to many excellent pizzerias including Romeo's Pizza, Napoli Pizza, and Benny's Kosher Pizza, distributed throughout the neighborhood so everyone can get a slice.
