The climate of Fort Smith, Arkansas features four distinct seasons, including hot summers, cold winters, and relatively mild springs and autumns. Summer temperatures tend to be in the 80s and winter temperatures tend to be in the 40s. The average high temperature in July, the warmest month of the year, is 93 degrees Fahrenheit, while the average low temperature in January, the coldest month of the year, is 28 degrees Fahrenheit. On average Fort Smith receives 44 inches of precipitation annually. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, although May tends to be the wettest month.

It is also home to one off-leash dog area, Fort Smith Dog Park, which is managed by the City of Fort Smith and the Fort Smith Airport Commission. Open from sunrise to sunset, this 40-acre dog park has a pond, water stations, benches, and a separate small dog area away from the pond, as well as trails and trees.
