Living Day-to-day In Flowery Branch: Nature
Just off Interstate 985 you'll find this quant little town. Drive too fast and you might miss it...but it has alot to offer. To the Southeast, the capitol city of Atlanta is only an hour away. As is, in the exact opposite direction, the enormous and grandiose Chattahoochee National Forest. It spans across some three state lines (four including Georgia) however the largest part of it you will find not very far from your new apartment's doorstep: it's where the great Appalachian Trail begins and there are scenic routes to take all through it whether by car, foot, canoe, you name it! Plenty of things like camping, boating, swimming and fishing too. And then...closer to home of course is the lake. Named after the famous musician and poet Sidney Lanier, the lake is host to several marinas and you can go there and put your boat (any kind of boat is fine) no problem. Check-out the official website for news, local community events there and bulletins from the Lake Lanier Protection Group. In the past, they've hosted some of the canoe and rowing competitions for the 1996 Summer Olympics there!
The Quaint Town Of Flowery Branch
Get acquainted with the actual town itself by visiting their handsome and convenient official website where they even provide a portrait of the mayor! Did I mention it's a small town? You'll probably run into him on the street when you get there. Downtown Flowery Branch can be pinned-down to roughly the area West of I-985 that's near the lake, while another big branch of the town stretches down from the other side of I-985 where it's more like a suburb. Check-out The Spout Springs Library Farmers Market on facebook and friend 'em if ya can. See how one of the community's most vital institutions keeps it fresh. It's the place to go for local produce, fruit, preservatives, baked goods, local meat and poultry, dairy products, all kinds of crafts made by local artisans and more.
The Historic Train Depot Museum
After you find you're apartment you'll soon also find a whole range of attractions in Flowery Branch, and after you've hit the Farmer's Market and perhaps the restaurants and shops downtown, you'll be in the mood for some local heritage and culture. The Historic Train Depot Museum is just one of such places where you will experience this. Not only do they house a variety of exhibits of railroad materials; but also they even host all kinds of events there: you can have them host your wedding, benefit dinner or even large business meeting, galas etcetera. Read all about the history online and then stop by the building in-person once you're settled in your new apartment in town. Outside they maintain a beautiful old red caboose train car, which you can tour the inside of. People used to live in there! It's basically like any old apartment inside, but it's a train! Kids will probably enjoy this especially. Sadly, the apartment in the caboose is no longer available for rent.
