The Essentials in Essex
Formally established at the beginning of the 1900s, present-day Essex conveniently sits near the Interstate 695 and Highway 150 corridors. There are several historic sites in town including the Ballestone Mansion which dates from the mid-1600s. The town was also important in the history of what is now the Lockheed Martin technology company and consequently the nearby Martin State Airport is named after one of its founders. Located in Baltimore County, the city is served by the Baltimore Public School District and has great local schools like Kenwood High School which is home to International Baccalaureate and Sports Science programs. Local college students can attend the Community College of Baltimore County. Residents stay informed of local events like the annual Northern Baltimore Art Foundation’s Art Fest via the city news, the Essex Patch.
Located right where the Black River meets the Chesapeake Bay, several creeks run through the city area. Active residents and dog owners enjoy being outdoors at the many local parks including North Point State Park which is right on the shores of the Bay and under ten miles to the south of town. Golfers can enjoy a round at the nearby Rocky Point Golf Course and there is endless water recreation available on Chesapeake Bay. Meaning “village at big river” in Algonquin, the Chesapeake is an ecologically conscious community abundant in boating and fishing opportunities. The Chesapeake Bay Journal keeps locals up to date with the events and clean-up efforts at the Bay. There is plenty of outdoor fun to be had in the Essex and Chesapeake Bay region, and all of it can be within reach of your new apartment.
So Close to Baltimore
