Well! At any rate, you'll be in good company. Elk Grove Village has been nicknamed ""The Exceptional Community."" Singer songwriter & guitarist Billy Corgan of the band The Smashing Pumpkins was born in Elk Grove Village, (here's a useful stepping-stone: website) on the town's official website you'll find information and a calendar for community events like the bike marathon, not to mention countless employment opportunities throughout the area, and the village news. A fella they called 'Busse' from Montana way back sometime around 1850 came into town with the elk (they're not exactly native) and that's where that comes from, and going back further; it's understood that the town was really founded by a bunch of New Englanders who had been roaming around the Great Lakes looking for a new base-of-operations. It became officially a suburb of Chicago in the 1950s.

A quick run-down of all the different parks: you got the Ned Brown Preserve (which is the largest), also known as the Busse Woods, it's 3,700 acres with a 590 acre lake in the middle, also: nearly 12 miles of bicycle and running trails (and wait...don't forget theme parks! An apartment in Elk Grove Village would be the perfect thing for a working professional who wants to make a home for themselves while being not too separate from the urban life of Chicago while being immersed in the Great Outdoors. Don't forget to root for the Cubs (when it comes to the great American past-time that is of course baseball, lest we forget the Chicago White Sox are also in the Major League) and 'Da Bears (football, yes...does anyone else remember that skit, from the late John Candy, of Saturday Night Live fame?). Root for your new 'sweet-home' team. Prepare yourself for subzero temperatures too...they had planned to build a new stadium in Busse Wood's but for now the action is still going down at Soldier's Field over in Chicago, which is really just a stone's throw from Elk Grove.

The Real Time Sports bar is a reliable and low-key place either to have a few drinks or eat-out, often they host live music as well. Elk Grove Village is the kind of place where you can get up in the morning and go down the street to get a newspaper, learning what's up in the city and locally while the birds are singing just outside your apartment window, and all the humungous parks afford you a chance to get away from all the rat-race and find some peace and quiet.
