The city of Elgin, Illinois is unique in that it is found in two counties—both Cook and Kane Counties. The city is located to the northwest of Chicago, and is often labeled as a satellite city for the Chicago. The last tally in 2012 saw Elgin with a population of 109,927 people, making it the state of Illinois’s 8th biggest city. Elgin is consistently labeled one of Illinois’s fastest growing cities, and it has seen significant commercial development in the past few years.
Transportation in the city of Elgin handled by bus and rail services. The Metra Milwaukee District/West Line offers rail service each day, running from the city of Elgin to Chicago. The bus service is offered by the public provider PACE, which provides buses to most of Northeastern Illinois. Routes are generally cheap and run at multiple routes several times per day. In the early 1900s, the city had a streetcar system, but that is no longer the case
