El Cajon is a city in southern California that is surrounded by mountains. The city itself lays in a valley, and got the name El Cajon for its geography—in Spanish the name means “The Big Box”, which is also the city’s English nickname. Today, El Cajon has a population of almost 100,000 people, and the city has steadily grown over the past few decades. At one point, El Cajon was just a small border town, but today it is flush with shopping malls and other local amenities that American cities have become accustomed to.
Most of the public transit in the city of El Cajon is done through the El Cajon Transit Center, which is also known as the MTS Transit Center. The transit center allows individuals to switch buses, rail lines, and use park and ride services, making it quite popular among the locals. Greyhound offers limited busing services for the city, and other than that many locals get around using their own private vehicles.
