East Orange, New Jersey

East Orange is located in Essex County and is situated northwest of Newark, New Jersey. It has a population of just over 67,000 people. Once it contained huge mansions built for manufacturers, but those mansions today are largely used for foundations or other non-profit organizations. Today, East Orange is a working person's town full of both brownstone buildings or newer high rises. When you start to look for an East Orange apartment, know that parking is difficult but public transportation is good. Many people commute to Newark or to New York City daily.

Orange Sections

The city has a deep part in American history from Revolutionary War times to the Civil War. Once it was a part of Newark, but eventually even Orange separated into four sections. Today, East Orange has a rich ethnic diversity and boasts one of the largest concentrations of Guyanese in the Northeast. Since it is primarily a residential area, cultural and performing arts venues are found in nearby Newark or Manhattan.

Guyanese Cuisine

Once in your East Orange apartment, it will be time to check out some neighborhood restaurants. The hands down favorite is always Sandwiches Unlimited. Try the Jamaican beef patty and a mini sweet potato pie for dessert! Dad's Place, The Ultimate Taste and any number of fantastic Guyanese restaurants are there for you. There is just about any chain restaurant you can think of as well!

Check Out the Nights

At night, there are plenty of little neighborhood places and there'll be a good one near your East Orange apartment. Bogie's Night Club and San Francisco's Pub are places worth checking out until you find your own watering hole. There's a huge selection of places in nearby towns. Check out places in Newark and Clifton too.
