Education in East Ora

Public education is plentiful in this northern New Jersey city and is provided by the East Orange School District. One charter school exists in this district and helps children who need extra care when learning, A host of private and parochial schools are also available as a public education alternative. Adults can also benefit from the technical schools that give residents a career boost. Blanco's Barber and Beauty Academy teaches cosmetology and also focuses on barber training. It is located at 1 Bloomfield Avenue in Newark, East Orange's famed neighbor to the west.

Whether you want to go for a walk, have a picnic, or play basketball, there are a host of parks in East Orange to choose from. Located in the 5th ward is Columbian Park, which is particularly popular because it has a pool with a pool house, two basketball courts, a baseball field, and a playground for the little ones to let off some steam. If tennis is more your speed, Elmwood Park, located in the 3rd ward, is home to seven tennis courts. This park features a popular softball field where locals get a chance to score some runs in the spring and summer months.

Support the Local Far

East Orange has its very own farmer's market. Found on Halsted Street and Central Avenue, this market generally runs from early July to late October. Here you can buy fresh New Jersey fruits and vegetables, as well as homemade jellies, fresh baked goods, handmade crafts, and other goodies. Occasionally, the East Orange Farmer's Market also offers a free senior citizen day where seniors can come and get fresh produce at no charge. Seniors must sign up for this program ahead of time to take advantage of all the fruits and veggies they can eat.
