Between Wilderness Park and Independence Park, you'll find almost any facility you want.Just up the road in Commerce, there's a great casino and there are plenty of movie theatres in town too.

Cuban Coffee and Diners

Before you get settled into your Downey apartment, having a couple of handy eateries is a good idea. Ruby's Diner or Ozzie's are both classics and you can get anything from breakfast to dinner at either of them. The Tropicana Bakery and Cuban Cafe is excellent for taking out or eating in, and you won't forget the Cuban coffee. Gloria's is excellent for Mexican food, and Peking for Chinese. Pieloon Bakery is another good one. You can get burgers, plate lunches and dinners along with fantastic baked goods. Down and Out in Downey

At night, people in Downey get out and about and it won't take long before you will find your favorites close to your Downey apartment. Hully Gully is part Latino and part 80s with two rooms and two styles of music. Dance the night away in either room! The Stardust is a bit of a dive but beers are $2, the bartenders friendly and you can dance too. The Downey Brewing Company is good as a sports bar. A big room and friendly people make it fun. There's an Elephant Bar in town and while George's is technically a restaurant, it is also a good bar and sports bar.
