Casa de la Cultura
Casa de la Cultura is the anchor of the local arts scene, offering kids' day and summer art camps and classes for all ages in music, dance, literacy, and arts and crafts. The center hosts a number of community events and festivals throughout the year, including everything from Dia de los Muertos and Christmas festivities to International Women's Day Conference events and the popular summer concert series. Take a self-guided tour of the center-sponsored, public murals, or join a group for one of the First Friday Art Walks, during which local galleries and Casa de la Cultura open exhibitions for the public.
Upstagers Community T
The historic Paul Poag Theatre in downtown Del Rio is the home stage for the city's award-winning community theater group, the Upstagers. This venue, with its 1940s Art Deco facade, is a Main Street landmark, once home to the city's premier movie house and now the center for Del Rio performing arts. Half a dozen performances from the Upstagers fill the stage with music, dancing, drama, and comedy each year, but the theater hosts a number of other arts programs, community festivals, and other events, including everything from concerts and dance troupe performances to the annual Del Rio UFO Festival.
Val Verde Winery
The state's oldest winery, in continuous operation since 1883, Val Verde is a local gem. Boutique wines, created by hand in small batches, produce truly outstanding local flavors. Val Verde is a family-owned and operated vineyard and wine making business that has been a part of Del Rio's entire history. Located just off Qualia Drive on the city's south side, Val Verde vineyards are always open for tours, and the winery hosts daily tastings every day but Sunday. Stop by for the wine, but be sure to pick up some locally grown and bottled olive oil of the highest caliber while you are there.
