Your children can attend one of the seven elementary schools that serve grades K-5, one of the two middle schools, or DeKalb High School. If you prefer a religious education for your children, they can attend St. Mary's Catholic Grade School, which educates kids in grades K-8. Higher education is always an option in DeKalb, with NIU being one a hometown prime choice.

Museums and History i

History buffs will truly enjoy Ellwood House, which was originally built as a private residence in 1879. Ellwood House has been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Homes since 1975. There are four actual buildings, which include the Water Tower, Carriage House, Museum House, and Little House. The house is significant because it pays homage to Isaac Ellwood, who is credited with creating barbed wire. You will find an eclectic mix of different architectural styles that can be seen throughout the four buildings of Ellwood House.
