Deerfield Area Histor
Deerfield's beginning lies in its proximity to the Chicago and Des Plaines rivers, both easily navigable waterways that saw frequent use in the early 1800s. Deerfield only grew due to nearby Chicago, supplying many rebuilding supplies after the Chicago Fire. The two towns have grown together through the years, with much traffic between the two still. Much of the history of Deerfield has been cataloged by the Deerfield Area Historical Society. The historical society is dedicated to preserving the history and architecture of Deerfield, a goal that reaches some completion in the Deerfield Historic Village.
Deerfield Park Distri
The Deerfield Park District manages the many parks of Deerfield, an organization that covers more than just park space. The district maintains Deerfield's public parks as well as its two recreation centers, and also maintain spaces to show the work of local artists. Rec league sports of many kinds, like basketball, softball, and soccer, are also part of the rec center programs. The district was first established in the early 1950s and quickly grew to include many parks, a golf course, and even a skate park. Deerfield has always been a town with many options for recreation.
