On its way to Detroit, the River Rouge runs through Dearborn Heights. Before leaving the city, however, the Ecorse River splits off from the River Rouge. This provides several miles of beautiful riverbank views throughout the city. It is along the banks of these rivers that many beautiful public parks have been created. Just north of Dearborn Heights is River Rouge Park. This over 1,000-acre park is technically owned by the city of Detroit, but people from Dearborn Heights and other neighboring areas are welcome to picnic on its lush grass or walk or bike along its beautiful paths.
