Just northeast of Danville lies Mount Diablo. Do not let the name scare you, however. Mount Diablo State Park is a beautiful location filled with preserves, parks, and watersheds. The entrance to this park from Danville is known as Southgate. Although the gatehouse is no longer in operation, you do need to pay $10 per vehicle to enter. This fee is worth it, however, as one can then spend an entire day hiking, picnicking, and camping. In fact, the park boasts over 500 miles of hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking trails. So, nature enthusiasts of all kinds are sure to have a good time.
Movie lovers of all ages are welcome at the Danville International Children's Film Festival. Taking place annually since 2003, this film festival is a unique opportunity for residents of Danville to come together and support films made both by children and for children. After each film, there is also an opportunity for attendees to ask the filmmaker questions. For aspiring actors and filmmakers, there are also seminars held by movie professionals. Notable past attendees have included Alyson Stoner, Daryl Sabara, and Joey Travolta. So children of all ages are encouraged to come out, enjoy a film, and maybe even discover a new passion.
