U.S.S. Lexington

The U.S.S. Lexington makes harbor in the Corpus Christi Bay.This aircraft carrier was a major player in the WWII Battle of the Philippine Sea, and later in the film Pearl Harbor. Today, visitors can explore the ship on guided and self-guided tours, gaining a deeper understanding of the Second World War through the many interactive exhibits. Battle simulators challenge visitors to take command of the ship and her aircraft in an attempt to save the day and win the war. The ship is even available for overnight visits, for a small taste what life was like for back in the Lexington's glory days.

North Padre Island

Corpus Christi city and bay are both protected by North Padre Island. This barrier island is largely undeveloped, giving visitors a chance to experience the natural wonder that Alvarez found when he first stumbled into the area. Drive across the dunes, search for sea shells, or simply lay out in the sand on this quiet, relaxing beach. The Padre Island National Seashore is also the nesting grounds of the Kemp's ridley sea turtle, the most endangered turtle species in the world. It's easy to get involved in the conservation of this species by joining up with local volunteers who help hatch and release baby turtles in an effort to bring this specie back from the brink.
