The Casa Grande Ruins are Fascinating

The area’s best known attraction is located just outside of the city. The Casa Grande Ruins were built in the 13th century by the Hohokam people. Casa Grande, meaning “Big House” in Spanish, refers to the largest structure on site, which stands an astonishing four stories. It was declared a National Monument in 1918 by Woodrow Wilson. The adobe feature was built using six million pounds of caliche which is a naturally occurring soil consisting of clay, sand and calcium.
