Tennessee Tech, Home

As well as a hub for manufacturing, Cookeville is home to Tennessee Tech University. Every year Tennessee Tech has a student body of around 11,000 students earning over 40 undergraduate degrees and 20 graduate degrees. The school is notable in the way that it encourages its students to work on original research in close collaboration with the faculty, often working across disciplines, earning its designation as one of the top public universities in the region. The town stands behind the university's sports teams, The Golden Eagles, making game days into a community-wide event.

Many golf clubs advertise how exclusive and upscale they are, holding members to strict dress codes and codes of conduct on and of the green. The Cookeville Golf Club takes the opposite approach, calling itself "The Friendliest Course in Tennessee". It is open to the public, but offers many services most often found at the fancy private clubs, such as a deluxe clubhouse and a fine restaurant with a spacious patio. The course is a beautifully constructed 70-par course spanning 6,600 yards, and offering discount tee times for the casual golfer.

One word comes to mind when discussing shopping in Cookeville: options. Big name brand stores and discount outlets are found at Jackson Plaza, located at the intersection of West Jackson St and South Will Avenue in Cookeville. The shopping center offers 40 different stores to choose from. For a more eclectic and unique experience, check out the West Side downtown district, centered around the historic Cookeville Train Station. The area is designed to be completely walkable and offers performing arts venues, galleries, museums, and boutique shopping, as well as a wide selection of locally-owned restaurants and bars to take the edge off a day of shopping.
