The Monastery of the
Conyers is home to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, a place of religious devotion, natural beauty, and remarkable architecture. The monastery is the full time home of over 40 Trappist monks who have dedicated their lives to contemplative prayer and simple living. The site is open to visitors and tours and also offers a facility for religious retreats. Founded in 1944 by a group of monks in what was then rural Georgia near the tiny hamlet of Conyers, the monastery has grown with the surrounding areas while preserving the natural beauty of the area.
The Georgia Internati
The Georgia International Horse Park was constructed to host the equestrian events of the 1996 Centennial Summer Olympics held in Atlanta. The site continues to operate a horse park first and foremost, with training facilities and competition arenas. You can also find a world-class events venue and scenic nature area with mountain bike and horse trails. The Horse Park spans 1,200 acres and specializes in hosting events of all sizes from wedding receptions to massive rock and country music concerts, with one memorable concert given by the famed Allman Brothers.
The Big Haynes Creek
Event promoters love to use the phrase 'fun for the whole family,' but there is one annual event in Conyers that truly earns this title. Taking place on the grounds of the Georgia International Horse Park the Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival is eagerly anticipated by the entire community every year. The two-day event features live animal exhibits, music and art performances, as well as a living history section featuring members of local Native tribes performing historical reenactments. Local favorites include the Birds of Prey show, where raptors swoop low over the crowd. Rufus the camel is also on hand to give rides throughout the weekend.
