Cahokia Mounds State
Located on the remains of an ancient Native American city near Collinsville, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site was one of the first eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites, making one of only 21 in the country. The ancient city was one of the largest within the Mississippian culture, which was settled around 600 CE. This city contained at least 120 mounds, 80 of which still stand. The largest mound was Monk's Mound, which rose over 100 feet in the air. There were also several woodhenges on site that were later reconstructed after the park's creation.

Each year in early locals head on out for the fun, entertainment, food, and music offered at this annual event. Activities for both children and adults are featured, including a fishing derby, a root derby, and numerous contests and games. A craft village is located on site, where you can purchase homemade crafts from local merchants.
