Retail Boom and Devel

Collinsville is one of the fastest growing communities in the area, both in retail and in real estate. In this retail development boom, Collinsville Crossing was created. Check out the many small shops and large retail chains that this strip mall holds, including big box stores like Walmart, Home Depot. For a more small town shopping feel, head down to the downtown Collinsville Main Street area, which is the center of Collinsville's shopping district. Here you will find many small shops and restaurants, including a locally-owned pharmacy from a bygone era and a popular sandwich shop called just that, The Sandwich Shop.

Cahokia Mounds State

Located on the remains of an ancient Native American city near Collinsville, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site was one of the first eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites, making one of only 21 in the country. The ancient city was one of the largest within the Mississippian culture, which was settled around 600 CE. This city contained at least 120 mounds, 80 of which still stand. The largest mound was Monk's Mound, which rose over 100 feet in the air. There were also several woodhenges on site that were later reconstructed after the park's creation.

International Horsera

Began in 1987, the International Horseradish Festival in Collinsville celebrates just that, the horseradish. Each year in early locals head on out for the fun, entertainment, food, and music offered at this annual event. Activities for both children and adults are featured, including a fishing derby, a root derby, and numerous contests and games. A craft village is located on site, where you can purchase homemade crafts from local merchants. Though many guests come out to see the local bands, most stay for the food and fun, as well as to pick up some of the highest quality horseradish available in the world.
