The Woodward Academy

The crown jewel of education in College Park is Woodward Academy. This academy admits students from pre-K through 12th grade and holds the distinction of being the largest private school in the continental United States with an annual enrollment of around 2,500 students. Many private schools advertise how small their student body is, but Woodward need only point to its track record of proven academic achievment. Virtually 100 percent of students continue on to higher education of some kind. As for public education, the city is home to 11 elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools.

Dining Out

Eating out in College Park always create a dilemma: What to try next? Located in the historic district on Main Street, The Pecan offers an upscale take on Southern cuisine, incorporating global influences and chef Tony Morrow's love of pecans. A local favorite is the oven roasted buttermilk pecan chicken. Or, take advantage of the area's Caribbean influence and check out The Jerk Pit, an authentic Jamaican restaurant offering unusual fare like curry goat or oxtail. In the mood for something sweet? Check out Our Place Cafe and Bakery for fresh baked pastries and maybe stick around for one of their regular Friday night Jazz sessions.
