Once a Spanish land grant ranch, Chula Vista today has a population of over 225,000 and is a highly sought after area in which to live. Located just outside San Diego, the city has a great history of farming, aircraft production during World War II, and today manages to retain a since of history as well as a progressive attitude. As you begin a search for a Chula Vista apartment, know that the central area is quite walkable but as with most Southern California towns, the number of amenities available in the local environs may necessitate owning a car.

Harbor Life

Chula Vista's coastline consists of a harbor and no beaches but the outlying Silver Strand is heaven for beach lovers. For boaters and recreational fishermen, Chula Vista's water access is perfect and if you love the water, you'll love the city. You'll find a plethora of restaurants with a high concentration of both Mexican and seafood. Some combine both like Katrina's Mexican Seafood, where you'll want to test the ceviche, for sure. Tacos El Gordo is great, and you get your seconds free there.Now, that's worth a try. Brigantine is more posh and slick, but the food matches the chic look and it is great for a big night out. Nico's is the place for steaks and simpler American foods. There's no doubt there will be locally owned places near your Chula Vista apartment too, and finding them will be half the fun.

Big Sofas and Wine

There are all kinds of bars to be found, and if you like dive bars, start with the El Dorado. It can easily be missed on the outside, but the inside is pure fun. It's friendly too. The Cask Room sports big sofas, tapas, and a super wine list and is located downtown. The Irish is a true pub, very friendly, and has a great atmosphere for meeting your new neighbors. Diamond Jim's has a 50 cent cover for their live music and it's a lively scene while if you want Latino music, check out Over the Border. You won't be disappointed!
