Groceries and Special
Walmart and Target are major chain grocery shopping outlets in Centereach, but there are several large and small groceries and specialty food markets in and near town. Pathmark is huge, open late, and conveniently located on Middle County Road, which makes it easily accessible. Fratelli's Pork Store, the best local meat market, is on Route 25, too, and has an impressive selection of choice cuts in addition to many freshly prepared specialty foods, including cheeses, breads, and pastas. Two miles northwest of Centereach in the Lake Grove area is a Whole Foods Market, with a Trader Joe's and Waldbaum's Supermarket not even a block away.
Night Spots Large and
Most of Centereach's pubs and taverns are smaller venues, although there are a few chain sports bars and grills in town that attract trendier crowds, like Buffalo Wild Wings. Of the truly local night spots in the area, the Irish pubs stand out, including Centereach's J.T. Haplin's and O'Brien's, which is a straight shot out State Route 25, just five miles east in Coram. Haplin's is always busy but can get especially crowded and lively on game nights, when the locals come out for some cheers and jeers over a pint. Haplin's is also a family-friendly place for lunch and dinner.
Heatherwood Golf Club
Since 1965, the Heatherwood Golf Club has been a local haven for avid golfers in the Centereach area. A par-60, 18-hole course with average slopes of 95, and a heavily treed terrain, Heatherwood is definitely a challenge for novices, but is also a great course for seasoned golfers to brush up on their short game skills. While there are no par 5s, there are a number of challenging par 3s and 4s at this public club, and if you fancy a leisurely drive, check out Heatherwood's sister course in Maronville, the Pine Hills Country Club.
